Our surgeons Ruwan and Palan are a highly experienced and professional team with a combined experience of 40 years in managing gallbladder and hernia problems.
We specialise in all conditions relating to hernia and gallbladder. The surgical procedures offered are performed laparoscopically (key-hole) or by open procedure. We also offer latest techniques such as component separation and injection of Botox for complicated large hernias.
Midland/ Mt Lawley Hernia and Gallbladder Clinic is a specialist private practice conveniently located within SJG Midland & Mt Lawley Private Hospitals. As the specialist practice is located within the St John of God Hospitals, pathology and radiology services are conveniently available within the same premises.
Patients can be seen and assessed in our clinic within 2 weeks with surgery offered within weeks if required.
The surgical procedures will be performed without a gap (no gap) by the surgeons and anaesthetists for privately insured patients. This means there will not be any extra cost charged to patients by the surgeons and anaesthetists.
Mr Ruwan WijesuriyaRuwan is a Consultant in General Surgery at St John of God Public and Private Hospital in Midland. After completing his training in Australia, Ruwan worked as a Consultant Hepatobiliary and Transplant surgeon in Sri Lanka for 3 years. His team was recognized for completing the first ever successful living donor liver transplantation in Sri Lanka. Ruwan performs a variety of general surgical operations. In addition to his clinical work, Ruwan is a clinical teacher and an examiner for trainee surgeons and medical students from University of Notre Dame and Curtin University. Ruwan is a keen researcher and has published widely in peer reviewed international journals. Ruwan is an avid traveler in his free time and a nature photographer. Mr Palan ThirunavukkarasuPalan is an Australian trained surgeon. He completed his medical degree in India and his internship in Malaysia. He moved to Perth in 2004 and completed his surgical training and fellowship in General Surgery. Palan then completed his advanced surgical training in
at Perth’s tertiary hospitals. Palan is a Consultant General Surgeon at St John of God Hospital in Midland and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Palan is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is an enthusiastic mentor. Palan is heavily involved in training surgical fellows, trainees and medical students from UWA, Curtin University and Notre Dame University. Palan provides the highest level of surgical expertise. He is well known for his empathy and compassionate care towards his patients. When not working hard for his patients, Palan enjoys spending time with his family (including his 3 cats and golden retriever) and sleeping.
